Map_of_Tenochtitlan,_1524.jpg

Old maps are fantastic resource for game masters.

The capital of the Aztec Empire, printed from a woodcut in 1524, in Germany, just 3 years after the Aztec Empire fell to the Spanish.

There’s a lot of interesting tidbits on the map–especially if you can read the Latin. Notice how the Gulf of Mexico is upside down. The Mississippi River has a different name: Rio Del Spiritusancto–River of the Holy Spirit. Even the sacrificial temples are named.

Tenochtitlan was a wonder of the world.
