Back in the mid-2000s, when Battlestar Galactica was at its height, music from the series often found its way to my tabletop RPGs.

I’d start my sessions with something like: “Previously on The Domikka Campaign” and the players would each give a one sentence recap of what happened in the previous session while the “Prologue” would play in the background. (Domikka being the name of my homebrew RPG setting).

At the time was I running a fairly intense military-style RPG: lots of fighting on top of dungeon explorations. Sometimes the characters in the group didn’t get along with each other for religious reasons. Drama. Angst. And all that. Just like the re-imagined series of Battlestar Galactica.

While the campaign wasn’t set in sci-fiction world, the music helped establish the tone I was looking for.

The first season soundtrack also had some good combat tracks, like “Starbuck Takes on All Eight.”

For a long time my favorite track was “The Shape of Things to Come,” even though it never got played in my games.

Reviews for the Mini Series, and Seasons 2-4 are forthcoming.
